One of the best parts of living in Santa Fe is how often you can eat outside. Summer evenings stay comfortable, the light stretches late into the day, and a good patio can turn a simple meal into something memorable.
These are a few patios I find myself recommending often. Each one has a slightly different feel, but all of them make the most of Santa Fe’s outdoor dining season.
Coyote Cantina
Right on the Plaza, Coyote Cantina is an easy choice when you want a casual meal with a view. The rooftop patio looks out across downtown and is one of the better spots in town for sunset.
The menu leans classic Southwestern with a few crowd favorites that locals come back for. The green chile cheeseburger is a solid choice, usually stacked high with onion rings, bacon, and a fried egg. If you want something very Santa Fe, order the Frito pie. It is simple comfort food done exactly the way it should be.

Luminaria Restaurant & Patio
Luminaria sits just off the Plaza at the Inn & Spa at Loretto, and the patio is one of the more peaceful outdoor dining spaces in town. Mature trees, adobe walls, and soft lighting make it feel tucked away from the busy streets nearby.
The menu blends regional ingredients with broader Southwestern and global influences. It is a good place for a slower dinner, especially if you are meeting friends or hosting visitors.
If you enjoy the Santa Fe Margarita Trail, their Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita is worth trying.

Thunderbird Bar & Grill
If you want a patio directly overlooking the Plaza, Thunderbird Bar & Grill is the place. The second story deck gives you a clear view of the center of town, which makes it great for people watching.
The menu focuses on approachable Southwestern dishes along with burgers, tacos, and a strong selection of beers and tequila. It is the kind of spot where you can stop in for a relaxed lunch or stay a little longer with friends in the evening.
The view is really the draw here. Few places let you sit above the Plaza and watch the city move below you.

Cowgirl BBQ
Cowgirl BBQ has been a Santa Fe institution since the late 1980s. The patio is large, lively, and almost always full once the weather warms up.
You will find live music, barbecue, and a crowd that mixes locals with visitors who heard about it from someone who lives here. It is not fancy and that is exactly the point. People come for the atmosphere as much as the food.
If you want a relaxed place to sit outside with friends and stay a while, Cowgirl is hard to beat.

Plaza Café
Plaza Café is one of the longest running restaurants in Santa Fe and a true local standby. The location right on the Plaza makes the patio a great place to sit with a coffee or a casual meal while watching downtown life move around you.
The menu blends classic diner comfort with New Mexican staples. Breakfast here is especially popular, and their red or green chile dishes are exactly what many locals grew up eating.
It is simple, reliable, and right in the middle of everything.

Santa Fe has no shortage of patios once the weather warms up, but these are a few that consistently deliver a good meal and a good setting.
And if you are spending time exploring the city and start wondering what it might be like to live here full time, that is a conversation I am always happy to have.
